Funding Secured for Heavy Vehicle Inspections

IMC has secured funding through Round 1 of the Australian Government’s Road Safety Innovation Fund. The fund is seeking to improve road safety in Australia through investing in critical innovation projects, with IMC's project described as:

"Testing automated thermographic tools and their effectiveness in assisting on road heavy vehicle inspections."

This project will seek to leverage machine learning algorithms to accurately identify thermal brake imbalances in heavy vehicles, allowing for an automated assessment of brakes. The importance of the project is highlighted by Australian Government data, which indicated that during the 12 months to the end of September 2019, 182 people died from 165 fatal crashes involving heavy trucks. Approximately 7.5% of all truck accidents are a direct result of brake or wheel failures, which this project seeks to identify - equating to 14 deaths over 12 months according to the above statistics.
